What is Elevation Exaggeration?

3D Elevation Exaggeration is a map setting that controls how dramatically the terrain appears in 3D. Increase it and hills and mountains look taller and more pronounced; lower it for a flatter look.

Where do I find it?

Tap Maps, then More > Map settings > 3D Elevation Exaggeration. It’s in the same place on iPhone, Android and the website. You’ll only see the effect with 3D Mode switched on, and 3D Mode is part of HiiKER PRO+.

What do the values mean?

The slider goes from 0.1 to 20 and is a multiplier applied to the real-world elevation:

  • 0.1 — the flattest setting: terrain is drawn at a tenth of its real height.
  • 1.0 (default) — true-to-life elevation, no exaggeration applied.
  • 5.0 — a moderate exaggeration that makes terrain features clearly visible without being unrealistic. Handy for low hills and “peaks”.
  • Higher values — mountains and ridgelines look much steeper and more dramatic, which can help with route planning in hilly terrain.

How do I reset it to the default?

Tap Reset to default at the bottom of the screen. This puts the value back to 1.0.

Does this affect navigation or elevation data?

No. This setting only changes how the 3D terrain is displayed on the map. It doesn’t change any underlying elevation data, route calculations, or ascent and descent figures in HiiKER.

Is this available on all map types?

Yes — it works on every map while 3D Mode is on.
