Off-route notifications are real-time alerts that notify you if you stray from your planned route. These Warnings are designed to keep you on course without needing to check your phone constantly.
Here’s what you can expect:
- Push Notifications: You’ll receive a push notification on your device if you go off the route.
- On-Screen Alerts: If you’re actively looking at the map within the app, an alert will appear, letting you know that you’re off the intended path.
How to Enable Off-Route Warnings
By default, off-route warnings are enabled when you start tracking a hike in HiiKER. You will need a HiiKER PRO+ subscription to receive these warnings. Here’s how to get started:
- Start a Hike: Open the HiiKER app and select the hike you want to follow. Either choose a pre-existing hike or create a custom route by using our hike planning feature. Start your hike by pressing the “Start Navigation” button on the overview page
- Receive Warnings: As you hike, HiiKER will track your location relative to the route. If you move off the intended trail, you’ll get a push notification to your device and an on-screen alert if the app is open.
- Responding to Alerts: When you receive a warning, stop and check your map. The map will clearly show your current location in relation to the planned route. Simply adjust your direction to get back on track, and continue hiking confidently.
