We’re excited to introduce our newest feature, Off-Route Warnings! This feature is designed to enhance your safety and ensure you stay on track during your hikes. Whether you’re exploring a new trail or enjoying your favorite route, this feature allows you to focus on the journey without constantly checking your device. This guide will walk you through how the off-route warnings work and how you can make the most of them on your hikes.
What Are Off-Route Warnings?
Off-route notifications are real-time alerts that notify you if you stray from your planned route. These Warnings are designed to keep you on course without needing to check your phone constantly.
Here’s what you can expect:
– Push Notifications: You’ll receive a push notification on your device if you go off the trail.
– On-Screen Alerts: If you’re actively looking at the map within the app, an alert will appear, letting you know that you’re off the intended path.
Why Use Off-Route Warnings?
This feature is perfect for anyone who wants to enjoy their hike with fewer distractions from technology. It helps you stay focused on your adventure while providing peace of mind that you won’t go too far off track. Additionally, it offers:
1. Safety: Reduces the chances of getting lost, especially on unfamiliar or remote trails.
2. Convenience: HiiKER lets you know if you’ve strayed off course, so you don’t have to keep glancing at your device.
3. Time Efficiency: Avoid unnecessary detours that can add time and effort to your hike.
How to Enable Off-Route Warnings
By default, off-route warnings are enabled when you start tracking a hike in HiiKER. You will need a HiiKER PRO+ subscription to receive these warnings. Here’s how to get started:
1. Plan and Start a Hike:
– Open the HiiKER app and select the trail you want to hike. Either choose a pre-existing trail or create a custom route by using our trail planning feature.
– Start your hike by pressing the “Start Recording” button to begin tracking.
2. Receive Warnings:
– As you hike, HiiKER will track your location relative to the route.
– If you move off the intended trail, you’ll get a push notification to your device and an on-screen alert if the app is open.
3. Responding to Alerts:
– When you receive a warning, stop and check your map.
– The map will clearly show your current location in relation to the planned route. Simply adjust your direction to get back on track, and continue hiking confidently.

You have the option of turning Off-Route Warnings off. And you can edit the sensitivity of the tracking system.
