Yes — for 7 days. Here’s how to get it back.
Recover a discarded recording
- Go to the Recordings tab.
- Tap the “…” (more options) button.
- Tap Recently Discarded.
- Find your recording and tap its “…” button.
- Choose Save to my recordings to keep it as a finished hike, or Continue recording to pick up where it stopped.

Each card shows how long you have left — Deletes in 7 days, Deletes tomorrow, Deletes today.

After 7 days
Discarded recordings are deleted permanently after 7 days and can’t be recovered — not by us either. A discarded recording is never uploaded to your HiiKER account, so it only ever exists on your phone. There’s no server backup to restore from.
Two things also clear the list early, so recover anything you want to keep first:
- Signing out of the app deletes discarded recordings immediately.
- Deleting or reinstalling the app removes them along with everything else stored on the device.
Good to know
- You can’t restore or continue a discarded recording while another recording is running — finish or discard the current one first.
- If you discarded a continued recording, only the newly added section was thrown away. The original saved recording is untouched and still in My Recordings.
- Delete Recording on a recording you’d already saved and uploaded is different — that one doesn’t go to Recently Discarded and can’t be undone.
- It works the same on iOS and Android.
