Splitting a long hike breaks it into stages, one per day, each with its own distance, ascent and estimated time. It’s how multi-day hikes are laid out in HiiKER, and it’s worth doing before you submit a long hike to be made official.

Split a hike into stages in the app (iPhone and Android)
- From the Home page, open My Planned Hikes and tap the hike.
- Tap More and choose Edit in Hike Planner.
- Long-press the route line where you want the split, then tap Insert intermediate control point.
- Tap the new control point (the dot) and choose Split route. The route is split in two, and the second half becomes a new stage on the next day.
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 wherever you want another stage.
- Tap Save at the top right to save your changes.
Already have a control point where you want the split? Skip step 3 and tap it. Split route is offered on any point between the start and the finish.
Split a hike into stages on the website

- Right-click the control point and select Split Route Here. The second half of the route becomes a new day.

- Click Save Plan, review the hike’s details, add photos if you have them, and click Save.
Let the AI Planner split it for you (website)
On a computer, hikes of 15 km or more (and hikes already split into days) show an AI Planner card on their page at hiiker.app. It lays out the days around your pace and can look for somewhere to stay each night.
- On the hike’s page, click Plan my days. The hike opens in the planner (a copy, if it isn’t your own hike).
- Answer the questions about your walking pace, how you handle climbs, how many hours a day you want to hike and where you’d like to stay. Choose I’ll sort that out myself — just split the days if you only want the stages.
- Check the suggested plan, then click the Apply button (it shows the number of days, for example Apply 4-day plan) and save the hike.
The AI Planner lays out days along the route you already have. It doesn’t create a new route, and applying a plan replaces the days the hike had before.
