A HiiKER group account lets one person, the group manager, look after HiiKER for a whole team. Mountain rescue teams, walking clubs, schools, Duke of Edinburgh groups and guiding companies use it to give members PRO+, share routes with them and see who is out on the hill right now.
This guide covers how to get a group account, invite members, assign licences, share hike lists and manage your seats.
Getting a group account
The HiiKER team sets up group accounts. To get one, email [email protected] and tell us:
- the name of your group or organisation,
- the email address of the HiiKER account that will manage the group, and
- roughly how many members you’d like to give PRO+ to.
Once we’ve switched on group management for your account, sign in on the web and go to hiiker.app/user/group-account. Enter your group’s name (for example, “Mountain Rescue Team”) and click Create. Each manager can run one group account.
The group manager page has three tabs: Members, Licenses and Hike lists.
Inviting members
On the Members tab, enter a person’s email address and click Invite member. What happens next depends on whether they already use HiiKER:
- New to HiiKER: we create an account for them and send an invitation email. They click the link, confirm their email and choose a password in one step. They then sign in to the HiiKER app with that email and password. Until they do this, their status shows as pending.
- Already on HiiKER: they join your group straight away and show as confirmed. They don’t receive an invitation email, but they do get an email when you give them a licence.
If someone can’t find their invitation, check their spam folder first, then click Re-send invite next to their name. To prevent repeated emails, there’s a short wait before you can send another invite to the same person.
Giving members PRO+ (licences)
Each seat in your group account is one PRO+ licence. When you assign a licence to a member, they get full PRO+ in the HiiKER app on iOS, Android and the web for as long as the licence stays assigned. They don’t need to buy anything.
Your group can have two kinds of seats:
- Granted licences: free seats provided by HiiKER for your organisation. Granted seats may have an expiry date, which is shown on the Licenses tab.
- Purchased licences: seats you pay for yourself through a subscription (see below).
To assign a licence:
- Make sure the member is confirmed. Pending members have to accept their invitation before they can receive a licence.
- On the Members tab, click Assign granted or Assign purchased next to their name.
The top of the page shows how many seats you’ve assigned and how many are still available. To free up a seat, click remove next to the member’s licence. Removing a member from the group also revokes their licence.
Getting more seats
Requesting more granted seats
If your organisation needs more free seats, click Request more seats on the Licenses tab. Enter how many seats you need and, if you like, a short note explaining why. The HiiKER team will review your request, and approved seats appear in your granted allowance. You can have one request pending at a time.
Buying seats
You can also buy seats yourself. Click Buy seats on the Licenses tab, choose how many you need and complete checkout. Purchased seats are a recurring subscription and renew automatically.
- To change how many seats you pay for, enter a new number and click Set quantity.
- To stop paying, click Cancel subscription. Your purchased seats stay active until the end of the current billing period. After that, members using purchased seats lose PRO+ unless you move them to a granted seat.
Sharing hike lists with members
You can share routes with your members, such as a club’s weekend programme, an expedition route or a set of training walks. First, put the hikes into a hike list in your own HiiKER account. Then, on the Hike lists tab:
- Choose a member from Select member…
- Choose one of your lists from Select hike list…
- Click Assign.
You can only assign hike lists that you own. You can give a member as many lists as you like, and you can remove a list from a member at any time.
Seeing who is live
When a member starts a Live Locator session in the HiiKER app, a ● live marker appears next to their name on your Members tab. This shows you at a glance who in your group is out on the hill right now.
Frequently asked questions
Can I manage the group from the mobile app?
Not at the moment. Group management is on the web at hiiker.app/user/group-account. Members use HiiKER as normal on any device.
A member already pays for HiiKER. Should I give them a licence?
Yes, if you’d like to cover the cost for them. Their own subscription is billed separately through Apple, Google or the web, though, so they’ll need to cancel it themselves if they no longer want it.
What happens to a member’s data if I remove them?
Nothing. Their HiiKER account, recordings and hikes stay theirs. They just lose the PRO+ licence and any hike lists you assigned to them.
How do I get a group account, or more help with mine?
Email [email protected] and the HiiKER team will help.
