Open the hike you want to share and tap the share icon at the top of the overview page. You’ll get a share card with options for Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and Copy Link.
Before you can share
Sharing creates a public link, so three things need to be true. The app will prompt you for whichever one is missing:
- Your email is verified. If not, you’ll see “To share hikes you must first verify your registered email address”, with a way to resend the email.
- Your profile is public. If not: “Your profile is currently private. Do you wish to make your profile public and continue to share?”
- The hike is public. If not: “This hike is set to be private. Please make it public before sharing.”
Each prompt offers to fix it there and then — you don’t need to go hunting through settings. Hike lists follow the same rule.
💡 The profile check is app-only. If sharing works on the website but not in the app, a private profile is usually why.
Sharing without making it public
Open the hike, tap More and export the route as a file: GPX, GPX (Garmin Compatible), KML (Google Earth) or GeoJSON. Your hike stays private and nothing is listed anywhere.
What “public” means
Anyone with the link can open it, and it becomes discoverable among community hikes in that area. It isn’t broadcast or emailed to anyone, and you can set it back to private at any time. See Your public profile and privacy on HiiKER.
