Looking to do this in the HiiKER app? See How to record a hike on HiiKER.
Hikes you record with the HiiKER app — and any you sync from Garmin or import — appear under My Recordings on hiiker.app, where the big screen makes them easy to review, tidy up, export and share.
In this article: View a recording · Edit, export and more · Import a recording · Deleting and the Recordings bin · Good to know
View a recording
Open any recording from My Recordings to see the track, its stats (Trail length, Time and Elevation Gain), your photos and a 3D Flyover replay. Click View map for a full-screen map of the route. If you bagged peaks on the hike, a Peaks bagged section lists them.
Public recordings have their own page that anyone with the link can open, and other hikers can leave comments on them.
Edit, export and more
Use the buttons under the recording’s title:
- Download — Send to phone, Export File as GPX, GPX (Garmin Compatible), KML (Google Earth) or GeoJSON, or Send to Garmin.
- Share — Share link to hike copies the recording’s link, and Generate 3D flyover makes a flyover video you can share.
- More — the rest of the tools:
- Edit Details — rename the recording, change its description or date, choose Who can view it, link it to a hike and add photos.
- Crop Recording — trim the start or end of the track (that bit where you forgot to stop recording in the car park). Saving a crop can’t be undone.
- Copy to My Hikes — turns the recording into a planned hike and opens it in the planner, ready to tidy up and follow again.
- Send to Garmin, Print Map (PRO+) and Embed Map (public recordings only).
- Delete Recording — see the Recordings bin below.
Import a recording
- Go to My Recordings and click Import.
- Drag in GPX or FIT files (or click to choose them), then click Import Files.
Imports must be real recordings — files with a timestamp on every point, as recorded by a watch or the HiiKER app. A route exported from a planner has no timestamps, so add it as a hike instead: see Importing hikes on the HiiKER website.
Deleting and the Recordings bin
Deleted something by mistake? Deleted recordings go to the Recordings bin for 7 days before they’re gone for good.
- Delete a recording from its page with More > Delete Recording, or several at once from My Recordings with Delete.
- While there’s something in the bin, a Bin button (with a count) appears at the top of My Recordings.
- Open it and click Restore on the recording you want back.
The bin is shared with the HiiKER app, so a recording you delete on your phone can be restored here too, and the other way round.
Good to know
- Recordings saved without a name are called “Hike from …” after the place they started. Rename them with Edit Details.
- Only public recordings can be opened by other people. To share one, set Who can view to Everyone can view in Edit Details — you’ll need a confirmed email address.
- Recordings count towards My Stats. Saving a recording that’s linked to a hike also marks that hike as completed.
